Boots & Bikes

Yesterday, David and I discovered that between the two of us we have 21 pair of shoes — a somewhat alarming statistic, though it does include the whole range from slippers to winter boots, as well as such niche footwear as rock-climbing shoes and biking shoes.

These 42 shoes strewn about the living room floor did not, fortunately, prevent several friends from coming over to watch Lance Armstrong whoop up in Stage 15 of the Tour de France. Most of those same friends were present at Kevin’s this morning to watch him whoop up again in the Alpe D’Huez time trial. That guy is quite a whooper.

Recipe! Internet! Action!

July 14th, 2004 by owenam

The NYT article I mentioned in a previous post ended with a casual recipe for tomato sauce. Throwing culinary caution to the wind, I dumped a bunch of stuff in a pan and hoped for the best. What I came up with just happened to be some of the best pasta sauce I’ve ever had:

2 15oz cans stewed tomatoes
3oz tomato paste (more for thicker sauce)
3 – 5 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1 Tsp olive oil
1 handful salt
1 handful sugar

Cook the garlic in the olive oil until golden. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar and salt. Simmer for 10 – 15 minutes. Spoon over pasta (I prefer angel hair/spaghettini) and eat.

The sauce was good enough to warrant an impromptu dinner party, and was well-received enough to get David and me invited over to Frannah’s for chocolate-covered bananas the next day.

I’m getting worried about the future of our internet connection. Of the people I know in this building using the same service, 100% have had very prolonged outages in the past several weeks. I guess we’ve been lucky. Perhaps it is finally time to make good on our constant threats to get a cable connection.

The dolts over at 1&1 are up to their old tricks again. Professor Yeti is unreachable, and therefore un-updateable. Again, it’s a good thing we’re not paying them anything. I just feel sorry for the suckers who are.
